After nearly 28 years of leading AIA Rochester, former Executive Director Linda B. Hewitt, Hon. AIANYS stepped down from the position in April. Members of the Principals' Roundtable along with Board Members and Linda's family conspired to surprise Linda in June with a retirement celebration.
The evening began with a cocktail hour at Rabbit Hole Tavern followed by a boat tour of the Genesee River with Corn Hill Navigation and ended with more food, desserts, drinks, and many shared memories!
Linda remains active with the chapter as Associate Director where she continues to work part time in support of CES crediting, chapter bookkeeping and event support among other responsibilities. Michelle Murnane, AIA has taken on the role of Executive Director after mentoring with Linda for several years.
Special thanks to 2024 AIA Rochester chapter president Jamie Bucci, AIA for his tremendous effort of coordinating this event with Linda's family! Jamie worked extremely hard to pull off a chapter event (legally) without our bookkeeper and guest of honor becoming aware of exactly what was being planned. Linda is not an easy person to trick into coming into an event in her own honor, and Jamie and his committee were almost able to pull off the shenanigan undiscovered. We are all glad to be past the risk of spilling the beans!
We are incredibly grateful for the financial support from chapter firms and individuals for offsetting costs: Dwyer Architectural, Architectura, PC, LaBella Associates, SWBR, Rozzi Architects, LMC Codes, LLC, Edge Architecture, PLLC Rich Pospula, AIA Emeritus, Penny J. Haley, Architect and Michael Short, AIA. Everyone felt so strongly that Linda deserved proper recognition!
Well-wishers created a video memento for Linda which can be viewed here.
We are so fortunate to still have Linda's passion and knowledge to help guide our chapter. Best wishes for pure enjoyment in your extra free hours, Linda!
