About the Event
The Evolution of Intermodal Shipping Containers for use in commercial buildings and kiosks
Intermodal Shipping Containers have become increasingly desirable and accepted in the US for commercial and residential construction. This CES program will focus on commercial construction, namely incorporation in Hospitality and Retail facilities, less than 3000 sf.
Repurposing of the container as the base structural element of the building recycles nearly 100% of the original product. Currently, there is very little demand to ship empty containers back to the country of origin, driven by economics. The millions of base building blocks that are being stored around the country, provide a very attractive and inexpensive resource for building modules.
Because of their increasing popularity, the inclusion of Intermodal Shipping Containers in Buildings has attracted new regulation, additional scrutiny by building departments, state regulators, and requirements to conform to structural, energy, and green codes which will be addressed.Â
