About the Event
Join Laura Cooney, AIA, for a Code Course focused on building codes, which fundamentally impact the health, safety, and well-being of the public.
This course is Part I of a two part course. Both courses are not required but are encouraged.
This course is similar to the January 2022 codes course; attendees of the prior one day course are discouraged from attending these sessions.
You must attend the entire session to receive AIA learning units.
This course is an overview of the 2020 Building Code of NYS (BCNYS) utilizing graphic examples for participants to better understand how to use the BCNYS and the main code provisions that can affect design, including compliance options, under the following topics for Part I:
- Review NYS Code status and BCNYS scope and format
- Occupancy classifications and special use and occupancy,
- Building height and area, both single and mixed occupancies, and
- Construction type provisions, fire distance separation and fire-resistant-rated construction
Learning Objective 1: Know the status, scope, and format of the   BCNYS
Learning Objective 2: Understand the different occupancy   classifications and provisions for building height and area
Learning Objective 3: Know how to   apply mixed occupancies and the difference between construction types
Learning Objective 4: Understand fire separation distance and   fire-resistant-rated construction differences and applications
