2020 Girls in Architecture
Encourage a young woman interested in architecture and engineering to sign up for AIA Roc's Girls In Architecture series through the Central Library. FREE and open to girls in grades 6-9. FIVE sessions. Limited to 15 spots.

About the Event
Registration is for five sessions, and we strongly encourage attendance to all the sessions. There is alimite of 15 girls, so make your reservations now to participate!
Session I - Architecture:
Introduction, plans and an elevation of a small house - relative scale, roof slopes, understanding engineering systems enough to work with engineers and how they affect building design.
Session II - Architecture:
Continue developing floor plans and create exterior elevations.
Session III - Structural/Civil Engineering:
Intriduction to structural and civil engineering, wood framed wall project, tied to elevation in Session I, tie in STEM with basic structural design considerations/load distribution.
Session IV - Engineering:
Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing - Introduction to building engineering, examples of MEP components/shstems and hands-on electrical projects - tie in STEM with MEP system calculations/science.
Session V - Options:
3D modeling/sketching/energy modeling programs (different programs, utilize 1-3 designs from Session I to show examples), career options, schooling/licensing requirements, tie in STEM with computer programs and classes offered in high school.Â
