The Legacy Center is envisioned as a transformative community anchor that unites recreation, wellness, and essential family services under one roof. Located on the former Woodhaven Air Force Base, the project reclaims a long-vacant site at the heart of a neighborhood being rapidly reinvested in. Designed as an inclusive, multi-generational destination, the Center weaves together an indoor field house with year-round turf sports, an elevated walking track, flexible community rooms, and a dedicated childcare center, responding directly to the region’s critical shortage of childcare and the community’s desire for accessible recreation.
More than a building, the project is a response to shifting demographics, emerging economic growth, and the need for spaces that promote health, learning, and connection. Seniors gain a safe environment designed for low-impact daily activity; youth benefit from structured recreation and enrichment programs; and families access vital support services in a central, welcoming setting. The architecture emphasizes universal design, adaptability, and community ownership, accommodating future programs, evolving sports trends, and diverse users.
